As you know I flew to New York and despite all my own travel advice bought two books at the airport to read on the plane. Books I want to read on the plane are not books I want to read at home. At home I want to be challenged and entertained. On the plane I want light reading that is fluffy and nice but not hard to follow.
One of the books I bought were so dull and such pointless I rubbish I wondered if the writer had even finished school. How does an editor read this dog turd and release it to the general public over other books and stories. Seriously someone must be sleeping with the right people to get some things published.
The book of choice
I was so disgusted in my own book choosing capability I bought a book that I knew had just been made into a film as the film’s release was imminent. ‘The Mountain Between Us’ by Charles Martin. Turns out he had written twelve books. That is the best news I have had all year. I have discovered an author that I have not read before and love. Click here for your copy.
This is what his website says about him.
‘Christy and I married in 1993. If you include dating, I’ve known and loved her for more than half my life. She is and always will be the home for my heart. We have three boys. Charlie, John T. and Rives. Folks often ask me which of my books do I like the best. You might as well line up my sons and ask me who I love the most’ Click here for more information about Charles Martin. (You could click just to have a quick glance at how handsome he is!)
Why should you read it?
My husband does not talk about me like that! Wow. He writes like this. His characters are developed like this. This book is not easy to create interesting characters. There are two and a dog. It’s a story about love and survival. A story about never giving up and never letting someone down. It’s a story about chance and what if. It is relatable despite you don’t often find yourself in a plane crash and surviving in the snow.
Why this book?
This is not a book you will struggle to read. I didn’t’ put it down. Okay, I had hay fever induced insomnia and read it in just over 48 hours. From that you will know it was compelling enough to keep me awake and exciting enough for me to not pick up one of the other 7 books on my nightstand. It is sweet and heartfelt and has an unexpected twist.
I say read it. With summer coming a great beach or poolside read.
